dermatologicalThe present Dept of Dermatology, STD & Leprosy and Immunodeficiency Centre of Command Hospital (SC) still functions in this ‘heritage’ building which has been refurbished to meet contemporary needs of a centre of academic excellence. The Department of Dermatology at AFMC has been accommodated in 2010 in newly constructed building having requisite facilities behind the lecture hall complex next to Dhanvantari auditorium. Brig AS Sohi was instrumental in introducing a comprehensive MD programme incorporating Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy, as no other University was offering an MD degree encompassing the three subjects.  Over the years, more than a hundred Dermatologists have done their post graduation from AFMC, which has been consistently ranked as amongst the top Medical Colleges of the country.

Dermatology and Venereology were separate specialities in the Armed Forces till the mid twentieth century and were merged thereafter, in keeping with the trend in most of the countries.  The Dept of Dermatology was established in the year 1965 in Ward 3 of CH (SC) along with Diploma in Dermatology and Venereology (DVD) course. It was later shifted to the location which is sited in govt accn of 1826 vintage.  The MD (Dermatology, Venereology & Leprology) course under University of Pune was started in 1974.  Over the years, the department has made remarkable progress under the guidance of various luminaries and stalwarts.
