Fibreoptic bronchoscopy (FOB)

Patients undergo FOB for diagnostic procedures like broncho-alveolar lavage (BAL), transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) and transbronchial lung biopsy (TBLB). Multiple interventional procedures like device/glue closure of broncho-pleural fistula (BPF), laser ablation of endobronchial tumours, foreign body removal, tracheal stent, electrocautery for tracheobronchal webs and benign tumors like carcinoid, balloon dilatation of stenosed bronchus etc. are being carried out routinely.

Medical thoracoscopy

It is carried out in Bronchoscopy suite under conscious sedation and local anesthesia. Pleural biopsies are taken with optical biopsy forceps for undiagnosed exudative pleural effusion, like malignancy and tuberculosis. It is also carried out in cases of pneumothorax. Pleurodesis is carried out in these cases with talc insufflation.

Video Polysomnography

In addition to previously available polysomnography, a new Video Polysomnography lab has recently been installed at this centre for diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and other sleep related disorders.

Whole body plethysmography (Body box)

Various pulmonary function tests like spirometry, diffusion studies, lung volumes and broncho-provocation testing using dosimeter are being routinely done in this department.

 

Airway clinic for patients of bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Patients are educated about their disease with the help of videos, models and posters. Their inhalational techniques are checked and corrected at every contact, an important factor in achieving optimal control of airway diseases.

Smoking cessation clinic

All patients are asked about their smoking habits and the patients are helped with counseling, nicotine replacement therapy and other latest pharmacological agents in this field to quit smoking.

Pig-tail and Inter costal tube drainage (ICD)

Cases of loculated pleural effusion are treated with PCD (pig tail catheter drainage) and IPFT (Intra pleural fibrinolytic therapy with urokinase). ICD is inserted in cases of pneumothorax, empyema etc

Respiratory ICU

A state of the art RICU is available with four ventilators. It has six beds. Critical respiratory cases are managed in this RICU. Recently the RICU has been renovated.

 

Tuberculosis clinic

This department also provides treatment to patients suffering from multi-drug resistant (MDR) and extensively drug resistant (XDR) tuberculosis according to the latest national and international guidelines.
