DEPT OF ANESTHESIOLOGY AND CRITICAL CARE
ACHIEVEMENTS: JUL 2018 – TILL DATE

  1. Col Parikshit Singh, Associate Professor, was awarded the COAS Commendation Card on 15th Aug 2018.
  2. The AFMC and CH(SC) guidelines on pre-operative investigations were drafted and implemented in order to reduce the burden of unnecessary investigations on laboratory, Radiology, Cardiology, Pulmonology and other sub specialties.
  3. Lt Col Shalendra Singh, OIC Athletics club took over as OIC Marathon Club as well and during the last 1 year the college students and faculty have won several medals and participated in a large number of Marathon events across the country.
  4. Lt Col Shalendra Singh was the OIC Pulse team of UG students that participated in various events at AIIMS Delhi in Sep 2018. The team won a total of 12 medals in extra-curricular activities.
  5. Lt Col Shalendra Singh‘s two articles were shortlisted for the prize of BMJ South Asia Phase 2 of “Best Paper in all subjects”.
  6. World Anesthesia day was celebrated in the department on 19 Oct 2018. Anesthesiologists from all the medical units of Pune were invited and Brig S D Palnitkar, Veteran Anesthesiologist, was felicitated. The AFMC and CH(SC) Guidelines on Preoperative Investigations were formally released. Posters on BLS, ACLS, ATLS and Patient safety were printed and displayed in the classrooms of the department.
  7. Lt Col Shalendra Singh was the Director for “AFMC Plankathon” for Guinness world record with 2400 participants. (maximumnumbers of people doing 2 min plank at a time) in Oct 2018.( Broke the Chinese record)
  8. Lt Col Shalendra Singh received his DM (Neuroanesthesia) degree at the Annual AIIMS convocation held at AIIMS Delhi.
  9. Col Kiran S went to INHS Asvini as member of the LIC team of MUHS.
  10. Lt Col Debashish Paul went to BJMC as examiner for the BSc/BPMT(OT Tech)  on 21st and 22nd Dec 2018.
  11. Col Kiran S was awarded the COAS Commendation Card on the 15 Jan 2019.
  12. During AFMRC 2019 , Maj Nipun Gupta, Clinical Tutor, was awarded the HQ(WC) Silver medal for standing first in the course ending examination of Advance course (2015-2018) and Air Marshal S K Bhalla Memorial Gold Medal for standing first in MD(Anesth), MUHS,  amongst the AFMC candidates.
  13. During AFMRC 2019, Lt Col Shalendra Singh’s two innovations were selected for the “AWISHKAR 2019 innovation awards”.
    1. Pressure Infusion Bag-one size fits all- positioning tool for central venous access and brachial plexus blocks- A novel yet effective technique.
    2. Mobile phone holder as an ultrasound transducer holding device – a Novel Technique.
  14. Skills lab at Aprameya has undergone several improvements during the last one year. New and updated educational charts and posters have been placed. New Mannekins have been added, older ones rearranged more systematically. OBG corner completely revamped, framed photographs placed outside the skills lab depicting the trg activities being carried out by various departments, 20 new potted plants placed outside the lab to improve the ambience of the place and make it more green. Weekly training schedule at skills lab is being conducted regularly for the undergraduates. 
  15. Col Kiran S is the OIC Med Cine Club:\

    i)          Three films of the Club Blue Whale, Dhuan and Clean India Healthy India were nominated for the 9th National Science Film Festival           of India – 2019, organized by VigyanPrasar, Dept of Science &Technology, Govt of India at Mohali.

    ii)         A Short Film ‘Vikalp’ won the Special Appreciation award at “Reflections 2019” a Short film making competition organized by the organised by “Pune Obstetric &Gynaecological Society” on the theme      of “Women Centric Films”.

  16. The Undergraduate trg program was redesigned to make it in-line with the new competency based medical education (CBME) curriculum of MCI which gives enhanced weightage to hands on and practical trg of life saving skills. Simulation based trg and hands on trg in ICU and OT was increased for the UGs.
  17. Grading Exam for the Adv course 2016-2019 was conducted in Mar 2019. All candidates passed the exam.
  18. Brig R Setlur was the invited expert to draft the BBQRs and the SOC for transport ventilators procurement at the Indian Institute of Aerospace Medicine, Bangalore.
  19. 10k run –Women’s Marathon was organized by Lt Col Shalendra Singh OIC Marathon on 10 Mar 2019 as part of Women’s day celebrations.
  20. Sq ldr Saurav accompanied the medical cadets on their visit to CHAF Bangalore for familiarization with the Airforce.
  21. Brig R  Setlur went to the Baptist Hospital, Bangalore as DNB Examiner from 25-27 Mar 2019.
  22. Col Kiran S went to Yashoda Hospital, Somajiguda, Hyderabad as DNB Examiner from 04-06 Apr 2019.
  23. During the annual general body meeting of the Society of Anesthesiolgists, Pune held on 11 Apr 2019 the following faculty and residents were felicitated.

  24. DNB final examination was conducted at the dept from 25 -27 Apr 2019. A total of 18 candidates appeared.
  25. Lt Col D Paul went to SOMA, INHS Asvini, Mumbai as Examiner for the BSc (OT Tech) examination of MUHS held on 21 Jun 2019.
  26. Lt Col D Paul cleared the IDRA part 1 examination.

DEPT OF ANESTHESIOLOGY AND CRITICAL CARE
CME/ CONFERENCE/ WORKSHOP CONDUCTED: JUL 2018 – TILL DATE

  1. BLS, ACLS and ATLS training module was conducted for MOJCC and SDOC officers in Sep 2018.
  2. On 23 Oct 2018 “Compression Only Life Support” (COLS) demonstration and workshop was organized at Army Public School, Pune by Col Kiran and Lt Col Alok Jaiswal as part of the “World Restart a Heart Day celebrations”. Anesthesiology Residents and Medical Cadets were also involved as instructors in this workshop for school children.
  3. American Heart Association Certified BLS and ACLS course was conducted at AFMC and majority of the faculty was from the dept of Anesthesiology AFMC and CH(SC) . Col Nikahat Jahan, Assoc professor and all JR1 participated as students. Col Nikahat and 3 Anesthesia residents, Maj Sonia Bhan, SqLdrAnkur Gupta and Maj NitikaTripathi qualified as Instructors.
  4. RECAP 2019, the annual refresher course for MD and DNB Anesthesiology exam going students was successfully conducted on 12th and 13th Jan 2019. 147 PG students from across the country attended the course. 18 Faculty members of Pune complex were instructorsfor the course. Lt Col Alok Jaiswal, Asst Professor was the course director.
  5. Col Kiran was the course Co-ordinator for the 3M – Military Medical Module for the pre-commissioning batch (A3) from 28 Jan 19 to 16 Feb 2019. He was assisted by Lt Col Alok Jaiswal.
  6. FATE (Focussed assessment by transthoracic Echocardiography) workshop was organized by AFMC and CH(SC) Anesthesia Departments for training faculty and residents in basic Echocardiography skills on 17 Feb 2019. Several residents and faculty members attended the workshop.
  7. American Heart Association Certified BLS and ACLS course was conducted at AFMC from 01-03Mar 2019. A total of about 45 candidates attended the course. For the first time, 17 students of A3 batch (Interns) attended the course and successfully qualified as providers for BLS and ACLS. Brig R Setlur was the course director. Faculty for the course was comprised of the faculty members from the Dept of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at AFMC, CH(SC)andMH CTC.
  8. BLS, ACLS and ATLS trg module was conducted for the MOJCC- 189 and SDOC officers from 13-15 Jun 2019.

  3. Col Kiran S delivered a lecture on “Anesthesia Workstation” at the PGCON 2018 organized by the ISA Pimpri Chinchwad Branch on 09 Sep 2018.
  4. Brig R Setlur and Col Kiran S attended the “Revised Basic Course Workshop in Medical Education Technologies” conducted by Seth GS Medical College & KEM Hospital, Mumbai at AFMC, Pune from 03 – 05 Oct 2018.
  5. Brig R Setlur and Col Kiran S attended the Sensitization Program on “Attitude, Ethics and Communication (AET-COM) Module “ conducted by Seth GS Medical College & KEM Hospital, Mumbai at AFMC, Pune on 06 Oct 2018.
  6. Lt Col Debashish Paul, Asst prof, delivered a guest lecture at a national CME organized by the ordinance factory Hospital, Kirkee on 18 Nov 2018.
  7. Lt Col Debashish Paul was the faculty for a workshop on Mechanical Ventilation at the ISACON 2018 at Agra on 25 Nov 2018. He was also a panelist for the discussion on “Ventilatory and Fluid management strategies in the operating room”.
  8. Col Kiran S gave a lecture on “Basic Echocardiography” at the 66thISACON 2018 at Agra.
  9. Col Nikahat Jahan delivered a talk on “Checklists in ICU: Whys and Hows” at the CME titled “Quality Improvement in Pediatrics- the future frontiers” organized by the Dept of Pediatrics on 21 Dec 2018.

  16. Col Kiran S presented a paper on “Evaluation of the IVC Diameter and IVC Collapsibility index using USG for guiding fluid administration in patients undergoing spinal Anesthesia” at CRITICARE 2019 at Mumbai.
  17. Brig R Setlur attended the CISP (Curriculum Implementation support workshop) at the Dept of Medical Education on 21- 22 Feb 2019.
  18. Maj Kaminder Bir Kaur stood 2nd in the ISA Delhi state quiz for PGs in Mar 2019.
  19. Col Kiran attended a one day CME , the “Critical Care Conclave” on Brain Stem Death certification and management of the brain stem dead organ donor” at AHRR New Delhi.
  20. Surg Lt Cdr Arijit Ray was course director for the AHA certified BLS and ACLS course conducted at Sahyadri Hospital.
  21. Col Kiran S attended and passed the ATLS provider course at Symbiosis Institute of Health sciences wef 11-13 Apr 2019.
  22. Col Nikahat Jahan attended the 43rd ICMM world congress on Military Medicine at Basel Switzerland from 18-24 May 2019 and presented a poster titled “Management of Trauma at a forward surgical Centre in a counter insurgency scenario”.
  23. Lt Col D Paul attended the conference and workshop on Emergency Medicine at Mumbai.
