Public Health Laboratory

Public Health Laboratory in the Dept of Community Medicine is a referral lab for testing of water quality of samples received from various Armed Forces Establishments. The lab also caters for testing quality of milk supplied from Military Diary Farms and civil vendors to Armed Forces.

Entomology Laboratory

Entomology Division

The division of Entomology, located in the Dept. of Community Medicine is the referral centre of Armed Forces for vector management policies and evaluation of hygiene chemicals for introduction in the Armed Forces. The division boasts of live hatcheries of mosquitoes (Anopheles, Aedes and Culex sp) dating back to 1957, besides hosting impressive colonies of trombiculid mites and larvivorous fishes. The division is recognized for its training facilities in field entomology for medical and paramedical personnel from India and abroad. Rickettsial diseases, outbreak investigations and identification of vectors and ecto-parasites are the forte of the division which has established it as a centre of excellence in the field. 


Armed Forces Central Epidemiological Surveillance Centre (AFCESC)

The Armed Forces Central Epidemiological Surveillance Centre (AFCESC) has been est at the Dept of Community Medicine consisting of a team of Classified Specialists in Epidemiology, Medicine, Microbiology and Entomology. AFCESC functions through surveillance mechanisms and Central Disease Registries against diseases of importance to Armed Forces. It also has mobile teams which are deployed in response to disease outbreaks

Urban Health Training Centre

Urban Health Training Centre

The Urban Health & Training Centre (UHTC) of AFMC is located within Wanowrie Bazaar area, Pune. The centre has been providing comprehensive health care services to the civilian population residing in this area. The UHTC functions as a community outreach activity arena for UG, PG and nursing students, sensitizing the budding doctors towards the health care associated needs of people residing in a semi-urban setting.

Health Museum

The Health Museum of the Dept traces its origins to the efforts of Lt Col J Rice of the Indian Medical Services and was established in 1944 at Babina, Jhansi, before finding its way eventually to Pune.
The layout of the Museum was reportedly inspired by the layout of the Wellcome Trust Museum in the University College of London. It is considered the largest Health Museum of its type in South Asia.
Over the years various changes have been made and newer sections added, keeping in pace with developments in the field, reflecting the remarkable achievements of Public Health in the 20th century.

Rural Health Training Centre

This is located at Kasurdi village, about 40 kms from Pune. The RHTC of AFMC orients and trains UG, PG and Nursing students in community based approach towards health care delivery in rural setting

AIDS Control Organization (ACO)

Dept supervises, co-ordinates and advises on all aspects of prevention and control of HIV/ AIDS in the Armed Forces.

Occupational Health Section

A walk-through encyclopaedia of knowledge regarding various occupational diseases and environmental modifications that may be applied in order to reduce occupational health related morbidity and mortality


Epidemiology & Biostatistics Division

Epidemiology & Biostatistics Division – facilitates all under graduate and post graduate research activities and conducts Research Methodology course.

The Central Disease Registry (CDR)

The Central Disease Registry (CDR) of the Armed Forces for surveillance of diseases such as High Altitude Pulmonary Oedema (HAPO) and  HIV/AIDS is based in the Dept
