Introduction:
     AFMC is a premier institute with an extensive emphasis on high quality medical education using innovative educational strategies. Medical Education Cell of the college was established in 1993. It started functioning by conducting microteaching sessions, seminars and providing orientation in medical education technology to the new entrants as faculty in college. In pursuant to an MCI directive of 02 Jan 1997, the Medical education cell was then upgraded to the Department of Medical Education (DOME) in 1997.

     Faculty was trained at National Teacher Training Centres at MAMC Delhi, JIPMER Pondicherry and PGI Chandigarh. The college has been regularly conducting faculty development workshops since 1999. College faculty has been involved in conducting basic and advanced workshops at different colleges of MUHS and at MUHS Regional centre from time to time. College promotes faculty research in Medical education done as a part of FAIMER, ACME and departmental projects. Undergraduates are encouraged to take part in such projects and they present their work in national and international conferences.

     Department of Medical Education, AFMC is developing an innovative strategy of teaching communication skills to UG, PG and faculty using ‘Standardised Family Module’. A CBME based curriculum in ENT has been formulated as a part of AFMS project. AETCOM portfolio has been developed as a logbook for undergraduates to run AETCOM as per directives of MCI.

     MCI Regional Centre for Medical Education Technologies, AFMC Pune was inaugurated on 19 March 2019 by Dr VK Paul, Hon Member (Health) NITI Aayog and Chairman, Board of Governors, MCI Delhi in the gracious presence of Lt Gen Bipin Puri, PVSM, VSM, PHS, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services and Senior Colonel Commandant.

To develop, improve and conduct stimulating educational program, in an alignment with evolving social needs, practice patterns and scientific/ technological developments with a view to promote excellence in teaching and learning in medical education.

To function as an expert resource centre committed to supporting “the education of health professionals” and enhancement of their educational effectiveness.

To promote innovative ideas for teaching and learning in medical education.

To produce compassionate and caring medical teacher and doctors skilled in the science and art of medicine, dedicated to the ethical and social principles of the profession with an enthusiasm for lifelong learning.
