The Department of ENT and Head & Neck Surgery at AFMC traces its origins to the early years of the Armed Forces Medical College. Undergraduate training in ENT commenced soon thereafter, laying the foundation for structured academic and clinical growth.

The department gained academic recognition when its postgraduate program was recognized by the University of Pune in 1967 and was formally initiated and consolidated between  1971 and 1980 , marking a significant academic milestone. Progressive strengthening of human resources followed. A major clinical and technological advancement occurred with the  establishment of the Bionic Ear Centre “Shravan” (2003), positioning the department as a leader in advanced otology and cochlear implantation services. Infrastructure development continued with the shifting of the ENT department to the current Golden Jubilee Block in 1998. In 2014, the department expanded its teaching capacity with the addition of a Clinical Tutor.

The department has since grown keeping abreast with the latest advances and made strides to provide sustained academic excellence and progressive clinical innovation, instilling ethical practices and compassionate care among the students.

Most recently, in 2024, the department achieved another landmark with the  establishment of the Simulation Laboratory “NAIPUNYA”, reinforcing its commitment to modern medical education and skills training.

The Department will constantly Endeavor to develop Professional Knowledge, Surgical skills, Clinical acumen and Research attitudes of International standard through its undergraduate, postgraduate and post-doctoral program.
