Department of forensic medicine

Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology was established on 20 June 1964. Maj MDS Borcar was the first Head of Department. The Department was initially located in a barrack, where Dhanvantari auditorium stands today. It was shifted to another barrack where Ashok Chakra Library is located. It moved to the Top Floor of Golden Jubilee Block in 1998.

Advanced Specialist Course was started in 2005 and National Board of Examinations, New Delhi granted affiliation for starting DNB(FM) from 2006 to 2014. Department of Home Affairs, Government of Maharashtra accorded permission for starting Medico-legal Work in 2008. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India have accorded permission for starting a training program for award of MD(FM) degree. MUHS, Nashik have accorded affiliation of MD(FM) course with annual intake of two students from 2015-16. “The Armed Forces DNA Repository has been established at AFMC, Pune. Blood samples of Armed Forces personnel are being preserved at AFMC, Pune and will be used to establish the identity of deceased Armed Forces personnel, where needed. ”
