Overview
The youngest department of AFMC has been established to provide
comprehensive and holistic geriatric care to dependent elderly
patients and veterans. Geriatric research and development of
various protocols and innovations are being undertaken to deliver
uniform, high quality and easily accessible elderly health care
services. Collaborations with various NGOs, public organization
and Ministry of Health are being done to develop standard training
modules. The department has published its first publication ‘The
Manual of Geriatric Nursing’ in the year 2023. The department will
shift to designated approved location in old CH (SC) location in
near future.

- Capacity building to improve the trained manpower in Geriatric Services by developing training programs for physicians, nursing, paramedical personnel and caregivers.
- Quality research in the field of Geriatrics and Gerontology.
Departments of Geriatrics is providing a separate geriatric outpatient service thrice a week (Tuesday/Saturday – CHSC Pune & Friday – MH Khadki). The Department is running regular special clinics in form of Memory Clinic on Wednesday & Falls and Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment Clinic on Thursday. The department is providing round the clock geriatric consultation to allied specialty services including Surgery, Ophthalmology, ENT, Urology, Psychiatry, Orthopedics, Dental, PMR & ECHS Clinic Pune & Khadki.
The Department has acquired newer cutting-edge technology in form of QTUG device for falls estimation, hand held dynamometer for hand grip measurement, thermal imaging camera for peripheral circulation and neuro-touch device for peripheral neuropathy screening to manage older patients with evidence-based practice.
