Legacy of Excellence, Innovation in Healthcare, and Leadership in Medical Education
Established in January 1965 under the visionary leadership of Col N J Choksey, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology has built a rich, decades-long tradition of clinical excellence, academic rigor, and pioneering research. Today, under the dynamic leadership of Col Madhusudhan Dey, the department continues to push medical boundaries, combining a holistic, evidence-based approach to patient care with cutting-edge medical education.
We foster a culture rooted in curiosity, innovation, communication, and skill acquisition, aiming not only to provide world-class healthcare but also to nurture the character, calibre, and leadership potential of the next generation of doctors and medical professionals.
Our Mission Statement: The Department aims to impart comprehensive knowledge and training in the science and art of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to undergraduates and post graduates and inculcate in them the quest for knowledge and skill, a strong desire to strive for excellence and a deep concern for the cause of women’s health.
Serving as a high-volume tertiary care and referral centre, the department is systematically organized into four specialized units. Our dedicated team manages vast clinical loads while maintaining exemplary safety standards.
To expand our healthcare delivery, the department extended its expert services to Sardar Vallabhbhai Cantonment General Hospital and Chandumama Municipality Hospital. This collaboration has scaled our collective delivery capacity to an estimated 5,500 deliveries per year, significantly expanding safe-motherhood initiatives across the region.
The department is a recognized leader in sub-specialty and super-specialty care, pioneering milestones such as the development of Khanna's Sling in Urogynaecology and administering India's Youngest Intra-Uterine Transfusion in Feto-Maternal Medicine.
