Armed Forces Medical College

Department of Pharmacy was established on 09 Aug 2018 within Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and is conducting Diploma in Pharmacy for Armed Forces personnel. The Diploma in Pharmacy is recognized by Pharmacy Council of India, Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education and Directorate of Technical Education. The first batch of Diploma in Pharmacy started in Aug 09 2018 with intake of 60 candidates (55 from Army and 05 from Navy). The Department believes in preparing efficient pharmacists for serving all three branches of the Armed Forces services viz-Army, Navy, and Air force in war and peace.

Brig AS Sohi was instrumental in introducing a comprehensive MD programme incorporating Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy, as no other university was offering a MD degree encompassing the three subjects. Over the years, more than a hundred Dermatologists have done their post-graduation from AFMC, which has been consistently ranked amongst the top Medical Colleges of the country. Over the years, the department has made remarkable progress under the guidance of various luminaries and stalwarts.

To provide quality education and training in pharmacy to Armed Forces personnel and mould them into competent pharmacists, to enable them to dispense medicines and provide patient counselling to prevent drug-drug interaction in Armed Forces Medical Units.

The mission is focused in the areas of Pharmacy education, research and practice.

To create a student-centric learning environment and to provide a dynamic educational experience and prepare the students to develop and apply abilities to provide comprehensive medication management and inventory management in Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) in peace and war.

To impart new knowledge by developing and participating in research programs in pharmaceutical sciences and patient care through multi-disciplinary involvement and improve quality of patient care in AFMS.

To enable our pharmacists to provide and contribute to good medication practices, learn to counsel about Drug-Drug Interaction and cultivate an attitude of skill-based, patient friendly and participatory healthcare delivery.
